Overview
Polyolefin Elastomer (POE) is a metallocene polyolefin plastomer/thermoplastic elastomer widely used as a POE impact modifier and toughening agent for polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). Many compounders choose POE resin pellets to raise low-temperature ductility, improve sealability, and add flexibility while keeping straightforward polyolefin processing. Guangju Yida supplies POE materials for compounding and manufacturing.
General Description
POE is an ethylene–α-olefin copolymer (common synonym: ethylene-octene copolymer; also searched as ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer). Typical CAS numbers include CAS 26221-73-8 (ethylene/1-octene copolymer) and CAS 25087-34-7 (ethylene/1-butene copolymer); the exact CAS depends on comonomer and grade. POE is produced by coordination polymerization of ethylene with an α-olefin (e.g., 1-octene) using metallocene catalysts, forming a saturated polyolefin backbone. In PP/PE blends, POE forms fine rubbery domains that absorb impact energy and convert brittle failure into ductile deformation.
Key Features & Benefits
Excellent impact resistance and toughness in PP and PE, including low-temperature performance
Strong compatibility with polyolefins for easy melt blending (extrusion, injection molding, blow molding)
High elongation and flexibility with a balanced stiffness-retention window in TPO formulations
Saturated backbone supports heat/aging stability and helps improve ESCR in PE compounds
Stable rheology and pellet handling for efficient compounding and film lines
Functional options such as POE-g-MAH for improved adhesion to fillers, glass fiber, and polar polymers
Applications
Automotive TPO: bumpers, interior trim, instrument panels (POE impact modifier for PP automotive)
Packaging films and seal layers: hot-tack, puncture resistance, low-temperature sealing
Wire & cable compounds: jacketing and flexible insulation blends
Adhesives and modifiers: masterbatch carrier, recycled polyolefin compatibilization
Consumer and industrial parts: soft-grip housings, flexible molded components
